About Us

The spiritual leadership and teachings of Ella Pearson Mitchell and Henry Heywood Mitchell continue to inspire people of faith, lay and ordained, all across the country and indeed the world. It is their legacy, singularly and together, that the Ella P & Henry H Mitchell Fund seeks to preserve and institutionalize. The purpose of The Mitchell Fund to document, preserve, and expand the legacy of Drs. Mitchell for spiritual leaders, current and future through various funding and program initiatives.

The Mitchell Fund Legacies

The Rev. Dr. Ella Pearson Mitchell, the daughter of a South Carolina pastor, became the second African-American woman to graduate from Union in 1943 with a Master of Arts degree in Christian Education.

The Rev. Dr. Henry H. Mitchell is a native of Columbus, OH, and holds earned degrees from Lincoln University, PA (B.A.); Union Theological Seminary, NY (B.C./M.Div.); California State University at Fresno (M.A., Linguistics); and Claremont School of Theology (Th.D., Black Church History and Theology). He holds honorary degrees from The American Baptist Seminary of the West, Berkeley, CA (D.D.); as well as Lincoln University, PA, and Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, IN (L.H.D.).
